Adobe Photoshop is one of the most popular and is normally used in graphic design collages.
Marvelous tools and wide range of effects and techniques makes it power full graphic tool.

Today using Photoshop(cs4) we are going to create a wonder piece of work which is called speed gauge. there are many tutorials around with the same subject but in this tutorial, I have tried to create more realistic effects with simple steps and less effort. Hope you like it…

Creating Gauge BG

Step 1:
Draw a circle (Rounded shape) using Ellipse Tool (U) with Background color #FFFFFF and named it R1.

Make sure your circle layer is selected go to Blending Options and select Stroke (on top menu Layer >> Layer style >>Blending Options >> Stroke).

In stroke properties use values shown in image below

In Stroke Fill Type gradient color use #9e9e9e (Gray) and #FFFFFF. Shape will look like this.

Step 2:
Now duplicate your layer (crtl+J) name it R2. Now press (crtl+t) or in top menu Edit >>Transform >> Scale and scale Radius in middle or R1

Now double click on stroke in blending options and set properties shown in image below.

Your image will look like this

Step3:
Once again duplicate (crtl+J) layer R2 and set background color #000000 and name it R3. Now press Crtl+t and scale it in middle.

In Layer Style>> Blending Options>> Gradient Overlay, here we set values shown in image below.

And set these colors

Creating Glow

Step 4:

Create new layer name it glow, Select Elliptical Marque Tool Select there are you want create glow with 30PX Feather and color #1C6782.

Press Crtl+back space and Crtl+D for deselect area.

Select Filter >> Blur>> Gaussian Blur and Set Radius to 52 and set layer mode to Color Dodge. You will get perfect glow.

It will look like this.

Finalizing Background Using Pattern

Step 5:
Duplicate layer R3(named it pattern) and bring it up to glow layer with Fill 0%.( In this I use pattern you can download it or can use any one you like.) go to blending options, select pattern overlay apply your pattern

Use these values in image below.

Finally it will look like this

Finalizing Gauge Dial and Glass Effect

Step 6:
In this step we are going to polish our dial with help of some effects. Duplicate R3 and use label R4and go to layer blending options (Double click on layer), now disable all other effects on layer and double click on Stroke and set values mentioned in image below.

Step7:
In step duplicate R4 once again name this layer R5 and in Blending options>>Stroke set these values given in image below. (Use #0052cd as stroke color)

Step8:
Once again duplicate R5 layer( set Fill to 0%) and disable all effects in blending options and named it R6. Double click on Bevel and Emboss and set these values.

Glass Shine Effect

Step9:
Now in this step using simple technique we will draw a custom shape and Create glossy effect (glass reflection).Draw the shape with pen tool and named it Mask(make sure Shape layer is selected), Set background color #FFFFFF and set Fill to 15%.

Dial Markings

Step10:
In this step we will draw speed gauge dial markings and numbers. Try to understand this step carefully because it is bit tricky. I draw new circle named it gauge in middle of gauge and set its radius according requirement. Now Set your text properties as shown in image blow.

Now Select Convert Point Tool and select shape named gauge.

Select Horizontal Type Tool from tool bar or press T and click on the border of shape it will look like this.

Now you are able to type around the shape(Remember when you click on shape border it will create new layer when you are done with it you can delete the shape). Now type Shift+\ and create your dial markings. Only thing you have to do is when you are done with typing all select 1st dial marking and make it bold and repeat this again on every forth one.

In blending options double click on Stroke use color #0092b7 and use settings mentioned in image below

and in outer glow use color #24fffc and these settings

Step11:
Now type speed numbers as you desires, I use 0 to 185 digits and use text properties shown in (Image 23). Just make sure your text placements.(you can also use grid Crtl+: ) use color #46daff and in Outer glow use color #24fffc and given settings

Gauge Center Wheel

Step12:
Now it’s time to draw a Center Wheel . For center wheel we will draw round shape with Ellipse Tool(U) in center of meter.

Now use Drop Shadow, Inner Shadow, Bevel and Emboss, Gradient Overlay and Stroke.

Gauge Needle

Step13:
In this step we will draw speed needle and attach it with speed wheel. It’s very easy and you can create it in three simple steps. Draw a triangle shape with n tool set Background color # 252224 and name this layer needle1 (make sure shape layer is selected).

Now duplicate layer named it needle2 set background color # f3880c and in Layer styles use Drop Shadow

Inner Shadow

now duplicate this layer again set (name Light) background color #FFFFFF and set Opacity to 50%, Press Crtl+g and group this layer in to P2 layer. Our needle is ready.

Gauge Speed Wheel

Step14:
Now we are going to create the gauge wheel. I use Ellipse Tool (U) and create rounded shape in middle with white Background #FFFFFF. Now it’s time to put some effects on it. I use Drop shadow, Inner Shadow, Bevel and Emboss, Gradient Overlay and Stroke.

Now create another circle in middle of gauge wheel, set Background color# 2d2d2d and in layer styles >> Bevel and Emboss set these values.

Final

Most of our major parts are done but i think counter is one of the important thing in gauge so we are going to make it.

Counter

Step15:
Select Rectangle Tool and draw a rectangle with background #2d2d2d and named this layer bg-counter. In layer styles select Inner

Gradient Overlay

Now duplicate this layer and name it BG2. Open layer styles by double click on this layer and select Gradient Overlay and properties shown in image below.

Select stroke and set properties.

Gauge Counter Digits

Step16:
Press (T) Type digits 02478981 and set text properties.

now double click on text layer and in layer styles double click on Drop Shadow and set properties .

Double click on Gradient Overlay and set properties shown in image below.

now your text will look like this.

Counter Separator

Step17:
It’s time to create separator between counter digits. we will draw a shape with 1PX width and BG color #FFFFFF. In Layer styles select Inner Shadow

Double click on Bevel and Emboss and ad properties

In the end select Gradient Overlay adjust properties according this image below.

and click ok.

Duplicate this layer again and again and adjust these separator in between digits. Your gauge will look like this

as you see our gauge is aprox done we will put some effect s to make our gauge more attractive.

Step 18:
Draw a Line with the help of Rectangle Tool with height 1px and BG color #df0000.Now go to layer styles and set drop shadow

and it will look like this

Step 19:
Type word NOS above your red line and set its properties according to image below

In layer styles select Drop Shadow and set its properties.

2nd we will select Bevel and Emboss with these properties

in the end we will select Gradient Overlay

now in the end I write some text (you can anything here).

Creating Background

Step20:
In this step we will creat background. Creat new layer with Bg color #e5e5e5 andput this layer in the end of bottom.

Step21:
Create new layer on BG layer and select Elliptical Marque Tool with Feather 30px draw a shape and fill it with color #000000(crtl+backspace).press crtl+T and adjust its thickness.

now here is the final gauge.

Dynamic Distortion & Light Beam Effects in Photoshop CS5 Tutorial

There are many Techniques in Photoshop witch are very use full to create special effects on pictures like light beam, sparkles, distortion and gives awesome result. It seems difficult to create such effects but truth is these are all just small techniques and Today iam going to create dynamic distortion & light beam effect in photoshopcs5 with the help of some brushes and image. Just follow simple steps and techniques and you can use it any ware and create outstanding effects. Hope you like it… Plz collect resources first i used in this tutorial (Back Ground Image, Main Image, Brushes).

Step1.

In beginning we will import our main image of dancing couple to stage.

Make selection of couple and delete back ground your image will look like this.

Step2.

Now we will creat our background (any backgroung of your choice). Open your image (bg1) and (bg2.png) on top layer and set its fill to 50%.

Your image will be look like this.

Step 3.

Now we have to add some shadow effects in background. Add another layer and named this layer footer shadow. Now select Rectangular Marquee Tool (m) and select your bottom area and fill it with Black color #000000.

Set its Fill to 0% and now double click on this layer or right click on this layer and select blending options. In blending options we will add some inner glow and set its properties as in image below.

Step4.

Now repet step no 3 in upper area and use values in image below.

And your back ground will be look like this.

Step5.

Now bring your dancing couple (cropped) image on stage. In its blending options add some drop shadow.

Final result:

Step6.

Now its time to creat a shadow of couple image. Creat buplicate image layer and press CRTL+T (for scale) and scale it from top to bottom them press enter.

Now press Crtl+L for adjust levels of picture and set both output levels values to 0.

Step7.

Now goto filters on top menu, in filters select blur and then select Gaussian Blur and set its value to 7.4(Filters>Blur>Gaussian Blur) and press enter.

Caution: Now read it carefully because its bit tricky.

Now we are going to start applying our effects. First we going to draw light beam effect.

Creating Light Beam

Step7.

Create a new layer and named it light. Then select brush tool (image)in its properties on top bar select soft brush and set its size to 3px.

Step8.

Now select pen tool (P) and start draw path on image.

After creating path set foregroung color to #ffffff and Wright click on path (pen tool selected) and select stroke Path(a popup window open)

in this window in tool section select brush and click on Simulate Pressure and click ok.

Step9.

Now go to your light layer blending options and ad some outer glow.

Step10.

Create another layer and named it sparks and select brush with same values and create spots around the beam and apply same outer glow values to them.

Distortion effect

Now we are going to apply distortion effect to girl.

Step 11.

Install brushes (Download) and use random brushes. Now you have to create a lot of layers (use separate layer for each brush).Once you’ve imported the brushes and created the Layer Groups, select the Brush tool and apply separate paint strokes so that the splatters are on separate layers – and make sure you name each layer to find them easily. For this exercise, I used around 20 different paint stains on about 20 layers, but you can use more or less depending on your image and the Effect you’re after.

Step12.

Now we’re ready to distort the body. We’ll start with the Right arm because it’s central to the movement of the piece. First, turn off the visibility of all the paint stains layers except for the first one you want to use. Place it over the arm, where you feel it works best, and select the layer (Ctrl/Cmd+click on the paint splat layer you’re working on in the Layers palette).

Step13.

Next, turn off the Splat layer’s visibility, select the dancing couple image layer, and Cut and Paste. Do this several times with different splats to build up the arm. Decrease the Opacity of the dancing couple image to see the areas that have already been done. Place all the new layers created through Cutting and Pasting into the Arm Layer Group that you created earlier.

Step14.

After building up the arm paint effect, you want to -make parts of the underlying arm disappear. Do this by selecting part of the arm, blurring it slightly and then, with a Standard brush (without the wet edge – 100% Opacity and 100% Flow) delete the arm of the girl. Now the effect is pretty much complete on the arm.

Step15.

Now that you understand the technique, do the same to distort head, legs and feet, always placing the layers in the designated Layer Groups so that you can find them quickly if you decide to make changes. These steps can take some time, especially at the beginning, but it’s the most important part of this visual, so take all the time you need.

A metal effect is one of the popular techniques in Photoshop and sound difficult to beginners.Today we are going to create Dodge metal logo in adobe Photoshop CS5. I choose dodge logo for this tutorial. There is no special reason using this logo iam just fan of it. Here is the Source of logo you can use any other image for it. Here is the source link of metal grill background I use in this tutorial u can use any of your choice. Now get start creating our metal logo.

Step:1

Open new(Crtl+N) canvas of any size (I choose 1024X768) with black background color #000000 and name it BG and now open blending options by click on layer, layer style and Blending options.

Step:2

Now go to Pattern Overlay and double click on it. Choose your pattern with 100% opacity and 100% scale

Now in same Blending Options go to Gradient Overlay and double click on it and u will found these properties shown in image below.

Use opacity 90%, angle -150 and Scale86%. In Gradient use Foreground to Transparent and use color #000000 and press ok. Our background is ready and looks like this.

Step:3

Now we have to bring our logo vector in it. The simple things I do are just crop the logo and bring it to the stage in three layers. Like layer name one is Frame, Second is Head and third is Text.

Iam going to start it with first layer (Frame). Select the layer go to its blending options. In it we select Drop shadow by double click on it and set Blend mode to normal, color #000000, opacity to 77%, angle 90, set distance to 2px, Spread 28% and size to 8px.

Now double click on Bevel and Emboss and set its properties shown in image.

Now we are going to add some gradient in it so click on gradient overlay in its properties where gradient is writtendouble click on it and another gradients properties will open . Add some gray and wite color in it like in image.

And set gradient values. (Follow this image values below).

And press ok.

Step:4

Now select pen tool (p)from tool bar and selectshape layer under image tab in top tool bar. Now draw a new layer up on frame layer like menstion in image.

Now set this layer fill to 0 %( it will become transparent)press enter. Now go to its blending options and select outer glow and set properties
(shown in image below).

Now double click on Inner Glow and set values.

Now here we are going to play a little trick. Duplicate the frame layer and named it Frame 2 with styles and group inside ( select both layer (glow, frame 2)and press crtl+g )glow layer and Frame2 in frame layer and disable some effects in frame layer and frame2 layer.

It will look like this.

Step:5

Now we are going to put some effects on Text layer one. First duplicate the text layer and named it Text2 and press Crtl+g and group it in to text layer one. Open layer one blending options and put some values in drop shadow.

Step: 6

Select bevel emboss and put some values in it.

Step: 7

Now select Text layer 2 and in blending options select Inner Shadow and give set values to.

Step: 8

And set Gradient Overlay values.

Result:

Step: 9

Now it time to give some effects to layer head. Select layer head and go to blending options.

Bevel And Emboss

Gradient Overlay

And press ok.

Now You will get Final result:
